About Automotive Service Masters

Located at 2135 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104, Automotive Service Masters operates as an auto repair shop serving San Diego in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as muffler shop, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. The most common schedule is 8 am–5 pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (619) 296-0785. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 105 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded auto repair shops in San Diego.

Love love love these guys. I've brought my 25 year old, highly abused van here for multiple issues ranging from transmission and engine leaks to frame repair and welding. Communication is fantastic. Pricing is better than fair. And turnaround is fast. Tony runs exactly the type of small, independent, responsible shop you want to use. I've had some real nightmares with this vehicle at larger chain shops. Having found ASM, I won't go anywhere else.

I spent the last two years and a significant amount of money chasing an oil leak that multiple shops couldn’t properly diagnose, even after tearing my engine apart twice. At one point, I was basically told to just get rid of the car. As a last attempt, I brought it to this shop in my neighborhood that I’ve seen for years. That turned out to be the best decision I could have made. They diagnosed the issue quickly, fixed it for about half of what I had already spent elsewhere, and for the first time in two years, there is absolutely no sign of oil leaking. I am honestly still in disbelief. Tony, the owner, is incredibly kind and clearly knows his craft inside and out. His mechanics are professional, efficient, and highly competent. Because of them, I may actually get a few more years out of my 20 year old car. Absolutely recommend!!

I came here after going to my local dealer with a noise from my car. Dealer absolutely couldn't figure it out and finally I decided to try going to ASM. I arrived and explained the situation to the manager there and he said he was happy to take a look. He later told he he was confident he knew the issue but it was late that day so I came back another day. They dedicated three mechanics and after some trial an error quickly found the issue. These guys are the best! Very knowledgeable, super polite and extremely fair and transparent. I wouldn't hesitate to go to them with any car needs. If you are looking to get your car issues fixed look no further they are the best. Thank you so much!

I showed up almost an hour early to a scheduled pre-purchase inspection. They let me in and did a great job. VERY FRIENDLY, PERSONABLE, FAIR PRICES. I think I just found my go-to mechanic.
